One of the things that I ded is that I reused all the jars and cans that I got, for example jars that contained peanut butter I used them either as storeage for coffee or sugar or I made nice pots from my garden. Recyscled always off the packages that I couldn't reuse.

For the last month I have been using a recycable bottle for water, so probably I have saced at leat 30 -40 plastic bottles.
