Freshwater + Oceans
Dishwasher Efficiency
Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than a dishwasher. To save water, I will use a dishwasher and scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.
Action Track: Community
Join a Cleanup Effort
I will organize or participate in a trash pickup at a local river, beach, or natural body of water.
Freshwater + Oceans
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When marine wildlife ingest plastic, they have a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Land + Forests
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.
Land + Forests
Zero Waste Day
The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.
Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 90 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Action Track: Community
Volunteer in my Community
I will volunteer 4 hours in my community.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Climate + Air
Consume only Needs vs Wants
The more stuff we consume, the more greenhouse gasses we put into the atmosphere. I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach this month and only buy things I need.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Invest in Nature
A healthy world needs both our daily actions and support from larger systems. I will spend 30 minutes learning about how I can use my investments and savings to advance environmental sustainability.
Climate + Air
Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
Each day, I will learn about responsible ways to dispose of items and de-clutter, clean, donate, repurpose or recycle unneeded items in my home to make sure that what I get rid of doesn't go into the landfill.

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + AirHow did it feel to intentionally declutter with putting things into the landfill? What did you learn along the way about yourself and our consumer and waste systems?
Courtney Stoner 4/24/2024 10:50 AMNot all decluttering is a success! I had a teapot that was gifted to me that I never use, so I left it in our apartment common area where people leave stuff for free for other residents. I was happy to see it gone so I assume someone took it. However, it showed up the next day back in the same area with a crack! So someone took it, broke it, and then returned it to the same spot :( now I doubt someone was able to repurpose it, so I think the cleaning crew disposed of it. Was a little disappointed, but just goes to show not all efforts will end up in success, and that's okay! Plenty of other times I have given/taken using this method, which has been successful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: CommunityHow does volunteering enhance your community and/or change your relationship with it?
Courtney Stoner 4/24/2024 10:39 AMVolunteering helps me interact with others in my community that I wouldn't normally interact with on a day-to-day basis. Especially working remotely, it's nice to meet with others who also want to give their time to a good cause.
