Jacob's actions
Freshwater + Oceans
Understand My Water Footprint
Each of us has a water footprint, directly linked to our daily activities as well as the water required in the production of things we use each day. Understanding our water use is important for a healthy planet. I will calculate my water footprint and look for a few ways I can reduce consumption or waste, then share what I learned on the feed.
Freshwater + Oceans
Share My "Why"
I will record a video to share why I am taking action this Earth Month, a sustainable swap I've made, and/or a local conservation effort in my area.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Action Track: Community
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 1 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Biodiversity and Me
I will spend at least 30 minutes each day researching what biodiversity is, how biodiversity positively impacts our world, and how the loss of biodiversity harms it. I will share what I learn on the feed.
Land + Forests
Borrow Before I Buy
Why buy something I will only use once or a few times if someone nearby has it for me to borrow, and why not share something I have that someone may only need a few times a year? To reduce my consumption and waste, I will create or support the sharing economy with friends, family, colleagues or neighbors.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + OceansWhat did you learn about the amount of plastic we consume and what actions will you take to reduce your use of plastic?
Jacob Oliver 4/14/2024 7:19 PMI learned that the amount of plastic we consume can drastically affect the health of the world around us. I started using reusable water bottles more frequently to reduce plastic use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + WildlifeWhat did you learn about biodiversity and how are you connected to it through everyday actions?
Jacob Oliver 4/14/2024 7:18 PMI learned that biodiversity can be achieved by many different actions and many different strategies. An example is growing a tree that will give you apples, which will sustain you for a long time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: CommunityHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Jacob Oliver 4/14/2024 7:17 PMIt allows you to keep your community cleaner and see the benefits sometimes with wildlife, tree growth, etc. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + ForestsHow did you participate in the sharing economy? (Consider posting a photo!) What are the benefits of a sharing economy? How could a sharing economy change the dynamics you have with friends, family and/or neighbors?
Jacob Oliver 4/14/2024 7:16 PMI was able to do this buying sharing reusable water bottles that I no longer use and sharing pieces of technology I no longer use. A sharing economy could change the dynamic of those close to me because it can help those others with their basic needs while getting use out of something I no longer did, meaning nothing is being wasted. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFreshwater + OceansWhat did you learn about your water footprint and what are you going to do to reduce and be aware of the water you use?
Jacob Oliver 4/14/2024 7:15 PMI learned the difference between reusing water and not reusing water. What I mean is the difference between drinking healthy water and harmful water, in the sense of drinking purified water from the town and then water out of plastic bottles. I improved upon this by installing a water saving shower head and using as little water as possible to brush my teeth during the day and night.-

REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: CommunityHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Jacob Oliver 4/13/2024 6:06 PMTree planting is goo for your mental health because it allows you to connect with nature and stay intact with the world, physical health because It produces fruits and fresh air to breathe, and spiritual because it allows you to connect with nature as you may see wildlife surround and create life for themselves around the tree.-
