Online Energy Audit

Energy use and waste is often invisible. I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.

COMPLETED
ONE-TIME ACTION

Freshwater + Oceans

Use a Reusable Water Bottle

It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

COMPLETED 18
DAILY ACTIONS

Climate + Air

Weekly Meal Planning

One third of all food produced worldwide is wasted, and so is the energy it takes to produce and transport that food. I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need and eating what I planned each day.

COMPLETED 18
DAILY ACTIONS

Biodiversity + Wildlife

Leave No Trace

I will respect and protect biotic communities by practicing the seven principles of Leave No Trace whenever I am outside.

DAILY ACTIONS

Land + Forests

Zero Waste Day

The impacts of our waste are far reaching. I will create zero waste for an entire day and share my reflections and learnings on the feed.

Being held up in bed after surgery is helping me not use as much waste that could hurt the earth. Once healed I could keep up with this to make the world a somewhat better place Ex. Littering, ordering food. Meal prep/using own water bottle is helping as well
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Biodiversity + Wildlife
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

My biggest thing would have to be littering. I believe that most animals could die from littering and it could be toxic to the earth as well
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate + Air
How did it feel to plan out your meals and stick to them in an effort to reduce food waste?

I think the weeks go buy easier when you have food planned for the week. It feels nice knowing I am saving energy/time but making my food at home rather than going out or ordering something
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Climate + Air
Where did you do an energy audit (work, home, school, other) and what did you learn?

My home. I constantly have some lights and fans going which can be turned off while not using. My electric bill could be cut down doing so

What was hard about having a Zero Waste Day? What did you learn about yourself and your habits?

Not too hard. Ate mostly fruits and vegetables. And filled up my own water
