Land + Forests
Explore My Area
When we explore natural spaces around us, our connections with them change. I will spend 30 minutes exploring a new area around my neighborhood, office, or campus (e.g., park, water body, nearby trail, community garden, green space, etc.).
Land + Forests
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Learn about Native Species
The world is full of unique species. I will spend 5 minutes each day learning what the native plants and wildlife are in my region.
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Save the Bees
Bees are vital to ecosystems. To help save the bees, I will learn which local flowers provide nectar and plant them in my backyard or in a pot on my balcony.
Action Track: Community
Plant Trees
Trees capture carbon and produce oxygen that is essential to life on earth. I will support this important piece of nature by organizing or joining a community group to plant 5 native trees in my community, public parks, office location, campus or backyard.

REFLECTION QUESTIONLand + ForestsHow does the act of picking up litter connect you more to your community?
Miranda Joslin 4/29/2024 2:27 PMI've picked up litter at least twice a week this month. It feels great to look outside and see things clean! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + WildlifeHow difficult was this challenge for you? What made it easy or difficult?
Miranda Joslin 4/29/2024 2:27 PMWhen I had time to go shopping on my own, this was easy. One time this month I did have to order groceries online for pickup and they don't have reusable bags but I asked for paper. I'll use them to hold my recycling in the future. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBiodiversity + WildlifeWhat did you learn about a native plant or animal species in your region?
Miranda Joslin 4/02/2024 11:33 AMToday, I learned about Bouteloua curtipendula, also known as Sideoats Grama, Banderilla, Banderita, Navajita. I was excited to learn that birds love the seeds - when I plant this later in the year, I'm happy to know that the birds will help spread seeds and further propagate my meadow with more of this lovely plant!-
Rhiannon Skelly 4/02/2024 11:37 AMStudying all about Oregon wildflowers to identify what is growing in my yard and along my daily walk. My favorite is the peanut butter tree (Clerodendrum trichotomum) is a small tree or deciduous shrub known for its unusual peanut butter scent emitted by dark green, ovate leaves when crushed.
