Amanda's actions
Biodiversity + Wildlife
Use Reusable Bags
Plastic bags can be mistaken for food by many wild animals and can end up in habitats that harm wildlife. I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases, including produce bags.
Freshwater + Oceans
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
It's estimated over a billion water bottles are thrown away each year. Even if they were recycled, that still uses energy and resources from the earth. I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Climate + Air
Declutter My Home Without the Landfill
Each day, I will learn about responsible ways to dispose of items and de-clutter, clean, donate, repurpose or recycle unneeded items in my home to make sure that what I get rid of doesn't go into the landfill.
Action Track: Community
Keep My Community Clean
At times it may not feel like it's up to us to keep our community clean and healthy, but we all have a role to play. Each day I am outside, I will pick up any litter I see.
Action Track: Community
Compost the Most
Compost as much organic matter as possible (non meat/dairy)

REFLECTION QUESTIONClimate + AirHow did it feel to intentionally declutter with putting things into the landfill? What did you learn along the way about yourself and our consumer and waste systems?
Amanda Bringhurst 4/30/2024 5:31 AMI started putting my things on the local Buy Nothing website as a means to declutter only, but when I realized that there was so much out there that still had good use left, I also started taking things from others that were posted there. Now, I barter on the Community Buy Nothing page every day and we just pass the items around rather than dump them in the trash/landfill. -
Amanda Bringhurst 4/25/2024 11:02 AMWe have been composting for a while, but the pile grows and I haven't been using it. Today, I posted on our local Buy Nothing site to share my compost with others in my community for their gardens
