Hand washing dishes can use more energy and hot water than a dishwasher. To save water, I will use a dishwasher and scrape, rather than rinse, dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.

When recycling batteries when some leak/explode is the only option is to throw them away or can you still recycle them?

  That's a great question! I was always under the impression you had to throw them away but after some research it appears you are supposed to drop them off at a hazardous waste facility where I believe they can recycle parts of them.
