I learned that our ocean absorbs 31% of the carbon emissions we produce each year. Over the last 50 years the ocean has taken in 90% of the heat caused by global warming. The high levels of carbon dioxide are affecting the water to become more acidic as well as making it hard for species to form their shells. When sharing this information with my friend the most impactful conversation we had was about how the water quality is also affected by climate change. Having higher water temperatures would mean many more forms of water pollution.
